Board stands by foreign fruit pickers plan to fight it

The government, in its defence, said the ban was not directly linked to its efforts to protect fruit workers in developing countries, which it has said were being exploited.

It added that, although the government's ban on non-hobbyists' picking will only last for two years, "the ban on private picking will remain in place until 2015".

The government said the ban would allow it to tackle growing consumer and 바카라 worker abuses to which it had committed to tackling.

"The government intends to ensure that this ban remains in place until 2015," it added.

It said it would create a joint committee to discuss implementation of the measure in 2014.

But in a sign that it might take an unexpected fight to quell the uproar, the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) said that the government's ban on picking fruit and vegetables by foreign fruit pickers would "have a large negative impact" on the supply chain.

It also said the country could not afford to be slow and to limit imports of fruit and vegetable products.

'Harmful'

In a letter to the UN, the FAO said that the ban would be detrimental in the long term, as countries were taking measures to prevent illegal fruit picking from taking place.

The commission said it had a long history of working on ways to "protect the right to production of food and fiber from exploitation through trade, so that it can be used for production of bioenergy and energy efficiency".

It said it expected to continue the work of the FAO's work on the issue as long as there were "no further steps" not in line with "the government's position in this respect".

The FAO said that although the ban on "foreign and non-national" fruit pickers would last for just two years, "it is reasonable to assume that the ban on private non-home-owned picking" would continue in the interim.

"At some stage in the future, we should also consider whether there are any steps that would have a positive impact that will allow us to continue to keep the ban on private non-home-owned picking under review," the letter said.

The ban on foreign fruit pickers comes as the US Supreme Court is hearing an appeal from seven labor organizations that allege that the federal government is preventing the country's non-farm worker farm workers from gaining access to health benefits.

They have also pressed the US government to pay the $6bn (£4.9bn) they claim is owed to farm workers for 바카라 unpaid leave, farm subsidies and benefits.
