The first, an increase to two tax brackets, will bring the income tax rate for earners earning over $50,000 to 15 per cent, rather than the current seven per cent.<br><br>The minimum wage is $7.25 an hour, up from $5.25.<br><br>If enacted, the taxes will cost $17 billion per year as the Liberals propose.<br><br>READ MORE: Finance minister announces minimum wage rise, income tax increase<br><br>The new increase for those earning over $250,000 would cost $16.8 billion per year.<br><br>The Liberals will also introduce a new income tax rate structure that starts at zero and applies to couples earning between $100,000 and $150,000. This will apply to couples for two years. The Green government would raise the minimum wage by $5 an hour for single persons over 20, while the NDP said it wants a tax on foreign sales, to raise money.<br><br>The new increases will not take effect until 2019 and will apply to all of the province's employees.<br><br>NDP Leader John Horgan says it's just plain unfair to the lowest 20 per cent of earners when the minimum wage is $15 an hour.<br><br>READ MORE: Full 2017 budget, 2017: What you need to know<br><br>The Liberals have said they would bring the minimum wage to $9 an hour. The minimum wage in B.C. is currently set at $7.75 an hour.<br><br>"It's outrageous that any one family gets a $30,000 tax break by the Liberal government, while those making $250,000 or less, pay higher rates.
