Suspected pipe bomb detonated between two schools in the eastern Damascus suburbs, the United Nations reported Saturday.

The explosion killed five people and injured 15.

UN human rights spokesman Rupert Colville told CNN that at least eight others were also wounded.

The incident reportedly happened near the Urum al-Kubra school that houses about 800 families.

UN investigators confirmed that a suspect planted a pipe bomb near the school, which is located inside Syria's capital, and then detonated it.

The blast was a suspected pipe bomb, UN officials said. A spokesperson for the agency said it may have been "a sophisticated piece of improvised explosive device."

The explosion, Colville said, occurred in an area that is still under the control of the Islamic State. UN investigators don't think militants were behind the explosion, he said.

The UN says the explosion has injured several people.

The violence in eastern Damascus began as rival rebel groups, including Jabhat Fatah al-Sham and Jaish al-Islam, fought for more control of the ancient city.

The regime, though, has continued to blame rebels and groups allied with the West. The government has been holding daily protests in the capital to call for its "restraint and peaceful means" as it fights the rebels.

In October last year, a car bomb in the Syrian city of Homs was blamed on Islamist militants from Britain, who said they had been behind it.

However, the group later claimed responsibility for other bombings in the past few months, 바카라 including the 2013 car bombing which killed 14 people in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo.
