Getty Images It turns out that the reported effects of hard water on your skin are backed up by science. The specific minerals in hard water make it hard for soaps and shampoos to lather and do their  job, so that icky feeling on your skin might actually be that it's not getting quite as clean. 

Had I been able to use my Moment and Lee Filters equipment with the phone too, I think it'd have been even closer. I did take my DSLR with me on the trip and fully intended to shoot some additional shots for fun, but I found that I just didn't need to take it out as often. I trusted the iPhone's quality would be sufficient to get what I wanted.

Brita Premium Filtering Water Bottle
Paige Thies/CNET Brita is known for its faucet and pitcher filters, but the company also makes plastic and stainless steel filtered water bottles. According to Brita's website, these bottles aren't intended for outside use -- they're intended for just tap water, like the Astrea bottle -- but this bottle also filtered natural fresh water just fine. The Brita bottle uses an activated carbon filter, which is extremely porous and pulls contaminants, such as chlorine and particulates. 

On my way to Kylesku bridge is the ruins of Ardvreck Castle, located on the shores of Loch Assynt. If I were shooting on my DSLR I'd use a long exposure to blur the motion of the water and create an ethereal, ghostly effect. But the iPhone has its own way of doing this; by taking an image as a Live Photo, you can edit the shot so that any motion in the live image becomes blurred. Using this trick, I got almost exactly the same effect I'd have achieved by using a slow shutter speed on my DSLR.

Neato also bundles a special tool with its Botvac vacuums. Use it to comb through the air filter, and knock away any stubborn dust, lint or hair fibers trapped inside. Tucked inside your robot's dustbin is an air filter. It's designed to trap fine dust particles inside the bin as air flows through the vacuum. Over time these filters will become clogged with lint, hair and other physical debris. It's a good idea to inspect the filter each time you empty the bin.

Truthfully, all three of these water bottles did a great job at keeping themselves clean. After three days of constant refills and no hand-washing, none of these bottles smelled musty or had any sort of film on the inside, two things my normal stainless steel bottle often produces.
