The other advantage is that you get to pay after you have seen the work produced or the writer shows you some of his/her sample work. You know your work and the writers know their job and you need web page designer to make web page for you, similarly you need web writer to write the web article for the site. You may not be a good writer, but you know what features of your work you want them to highlight. Plus you may not be having the time to write the web material. So you tell the content writer about you web site and what the highlights are that you want to emphasize on. After that you reach an agreement on the payment and the deadline by which you need the web page content. You can also get multiple writers to write your web content for you and then you can select which one you think suits your requirements. You can also consult with colleagues or friends over which web content suits and then go with it. A number of companies and organizations hire website writers to write for their web sites. Stacey MacNaught is a self-employed online marketing consultant with over a decade of experience. Yet she's still inundated with requests to work for free "for exposure". She is not alone. As the number of people in self-employment working for themselves rises, there's also a growing concern that many are being pressured into unpaid work. I had a client phone up and suggest that I 'needed to do this work' for him because six months ago he paid me and didn't really need the drawing he paid me to do. It needs to be called out for what it is - it's unfair. Everybody's work has value and it's right that they should be paid for that. Its common practice in certain sectors to ask for unpaid work but that doesn't mean it's okay. IPSE wants the Office of the Small Business Commissioner to be granted more powers to crack down on repeat offenders, including being able to ask businesses to state how often they ask for free work. The commissioner Paul Uppal told BBC 5 live's Wake Up To Money programme that he is aware of the issue and wants to do more. He's calling for self-employed people to report such requests to him so he can act. That can be anonymously if they wish, but ideally we want them to have as much of a candid conversation about this issue as possible so that they can give us the ammunition to fire the bullets on this issue. Of course people can always just say no to requests for freebies, but some workers say that a culture of free work makes it harder for everyone. If businesses believe they can choose to not pay for something and get the same then why would they pay for it? Freelance support/dev for ERP software. I work mostly from home but make a point to regularly go and sit in clients offices. Even if I am 90% working for another client that day it gets me more work to be around where its easy for them to chat about issues and hand me more work. Also nice to be around people beyond Skype chats every now and then. I never hated my work, just the BS that came from people who didn't have a clue abou twhat we did but tried to climb the management ladder. I just get to do the work in a very flexible way. Get to walk and ride to school with my kids, turn up at their events and sports. Well worth it for the odd night where I put them to bed then work really late. You need a good amount of experience it's all well and good be able to build the site, but what if worse case scenarios happen are you really qualified for that like WORSE case. DB gets wiped and your backups are a bit old SUED. Bottle neck in an API and now the client has been missing transactions from paying customers SUED. Site breaking bug at 3am and if you don't get it up within a certain amount of time you miss your 99.99% SLA lose the contract and no retainer. All of this is without even considering where you're getting your next client from. Now i'm from the UK so i don't need to worry about healthcare but if you're from America well good look if you get sick and now cant serve your clients your business tanks and you have no back up. The only thing the Connies would do better at is cargo hauling since they can hold more. As you stated, the Connies are definitely more livable with the bunks, table, and the ability to carry a vehicle if you wanted. It's a tough call as both are good ships. Start at a fair rate and adjust your prices upward as you gain more cred in the platform. Good luck and stay motivated.
