SanDisk Clip Jam Review: A No-frills MP3 Player For Taking To-go

2020-01-01T14:41:31Z

Vernita92Z:

id="cnetReview" section="rvwBody" data-component="indepthReview"> MP3 players have slowly been replaced by smartphones, but if you find yourself in the rare situation of needing one, [https://knowyourmeme.com/users/oneilweinstein24/ https://knowyourmeme.com/users/oneilweinstein24/] luckily for you their near-extinct status means lower prices. The simple SanDisk Clip Jam is compellingly cheap enough to justify buying it just for the gym. For just $40 or £30 in the UK (converts to AU$54 in Australia) this super lightweight music player boasts a built-in clip, has a no-frills digital screen for easy browsing and it works with both PCs and Macs. The Clip Jam lacks the Bluetooth found in the Apple iPod Nano -- so don't expect to use your wireless headphones or speakers. And though it's small, it's not as sleek as the tiny iPod Shuffle -- but it is cheaper than both Apple music players. Additionally, the SanDisk MP3 player has one feature no Apple iPod has ever had: a microSD card expansion slot. Using this, you can increase its built-in 8GB storage with an extra 64GB. It's no infinite cloud of streaming music, but it's a lot more space than the Shuffle (2GB) and Nano (16GB) offer. View full gallery Josh Miller/CNET Best of all, you don't have to use iTunes to transfer your music -- just drag and drop your music files. (The Clip Jam shows up as an external drive when connected to your Mac or Windows PC.). Though its sound quality can't compare to expensive high-res music players, the Clip Jam sounds fine -- unless you're audiophile, you won't notice the difference between listening to this or an iPod. In addition to MP3, it's compatible with WMA, WAV and AAC files -- such as the ones you purchase from iTunes or Amazon. But it won't work with any subscription music services, nor will it work with the old copy-protected iTunes purchases made before 2007. The built-in clip that sturdily keeps it in place while on a run makes it comparable to the iPod Shuffle, which has a similar design. However, aside from looks and a battery (similar to the Shuffle, the Clip Jam averaged about 20 hours in the CNET Labs battery test), they don't have much in common. The Shuffle has no screen to choose what you want to listen to. The SanDisk Clip Jam, on the other hand, has a low-res screen that lets you tune into an FM radio station or peruse all of your music, podcasts and Audible audiobooks, as well as the contents of the aforementioned microSD card expansion slot. View full gallery Josh Miller/CNET Unfortunately, without Wi-Fi or streaming music integration, the SanDisk Clip Jam is a victim of the times. More and more people are switching to streaming music services, like Spotify or Apple Music, instead of downloading singles or albums. Without this function, the SanDisk MP3 player feels antiquated. If that's of no concern, or you just want to load a few of your already-downloaded favorite songs for the perfect running playlist, the SanDisk Clip Jam is an affordable, user-friendly alternative to the iPod Shuffle. Editors' note, June 22, 2016: This review has been updated to add details on the FM radio feature and battery life, as well as details on sound quality.

UK To Plug In World s Largest Electric Car Trial - Roadshow

Vernita92Z:

id="article-body" class="row" section="article-body"> The UK is to host the world's largest trial of electric vehicles, putting the kind of hi-tech eco-friendly cars you'd normally only see in CNET UK's award-winning Car Tech onto the streets of our green and pleasant land. The £25 million scheme was unveiled on Tuesday by Lord Adonis, the transport secretary, and Lord Drayson, the science minister. Three hundred and forty vehicles will be loaned to people in eight locations around the country, including London, Coventry, Birmingham and Newcastle. Each area's trial will be run by a consortium made up of car manufacturers, power companies and universities, to test and study hybrid and all-electric vehicles. The idea is to test the social aspects of the eco-friendly jam jars, as well as the technical, as the trial attempts to raise the visibility of electric and hybrid vehicles and change attitudes among the public. Drivers will be monitored by researchers from, among others, Oxford Brookes University and Coventry University, while the universities of Strathclyde and Aston will track the cars by satellite. Power companies will also be involved, looking at the way infrastructure must be developed. Battery company Axeon has teamed up with Peugeot to offer 40 cars in Glasgow, while Toyota and EDF are putting up to 20 plug-in hybrid vehicles (pictured above) on London streets. Scottish and Southern Energy is considering putting a 32 amp charging box into homes, potentially juicing up a Mini E in less than half of the 10-hour time taken by a standard socket. A range of cars will be tested, the only criteria being that the cars must emit less than 50g of CO2 per km. As well as 40 Mini Es, there'll be 100 of Mercedes-Benz' latest Smart Cars buzzing about. Twenty one electric sports cars will also be zipping about courtesy of the EEMS Accelerate consortium, made up of independent manufacturers, including Westfield, Delta Motorsport and https://cooneyadair57.doodlekit.com/blog/entry/6335301/wattpad-tangan-menjalar - [https://cooneyadair57.doodlekit.com/blog/entry/6335301/wattpad-tangan-menjalar click this link here now] - Lightning. As if that wasn't enough, green energy company Ecotricity reckons it will build a car from scratch that runs purely on juice from wind turbines. The government will recruit drivers from all walks of life, with different driving requirements. Confusingly, how you get involved depends on the consortium in your area. Like those earlier headphones, the JuniorJams retain the 85-decibel volume output limitation, so it's all but impossible for kids to crank their music to dangerous levels. The new models also up the battery life to 22 hours (from the BT2200's 18). Additionally, the JuniorJams offer what Puro calls "daisy-chain music sharing." Tether two JuniorJams together with an included USB cable, and two people can listen to the same wireless (or wired) music source. We tried it, and worked like a charm. The 42-inch cable length will make for close quarters during mutual listening, but in the expected environment -- say, the backseat of a car -- that's probably the situation anyway. While the JuniorJams are sized for kids' heads, the expandable headband lets them work for adult noggins too (albeit somewhat snugly). The earcups fold flat for easy travel in the included hard case, too. Best of all, the Junior Jams are affordable, at least as far as name brand [http://www.escortsadservice.com/author/nevillealston20 www.escortsadservice.com] Bluetooth headphones are concerned. HMDX Jam Plus Can Pair Up For True Bluetooth Stereo

2019-12-24T01:16:25Z

Vernita92Z:

id="cnetReview" section="rvwBody" data-component="indepthReview"> The original HMDX Jam distinguished itself from the rest of the mini Bluetooth speaker pack with a low price tag ($39.99) and some creative packaging: the speaker came in a "jam" jar made of hard translucent plastic, complete with a twist-off top. Now the company is back with a new, improved edition, the Jam Plus, which retails for around $50 and comes in multiple colors. The speaker's slightly bigger than the original and also sounds slightly better, but its other selling point is that if you buy two of them, you can combine the two speakers and create a pair of left/right wireless stereo speakers. The Jam Plus is among the first Bluetooth speakers to include such a stereo option and it certainly creates a better listening experience, though it doesn't cover up the speakers' shortcomings in the bass department. Design and features The original or "classic" Jam is sold in six "flavors"-- Strawberry, Grape, Blueberry, Blackberry, Apricot, and Apple -- that refer to its various color options. This model eschews the fruit reference, but it does come in five different colors. Interestingly, the Plus is slightly larger than the original but weighs a bit less (8 ounces vs. 9.6 ounces). The HMDX Plus has transport and volume controls on the front of the unit. Sarah Tew/CNET The speaker is attractively styled in a fun way and seems geared toward tweens and younger tech users who might, say, have an iPod Touch (yes, the iPod Touch skews toward a younger audience). It's easy to pick up and carry around from room to room, and while no carrying case is included for [https://kostsurabaya.net/author/duusduus34/ https://kostsurabaya.net/author/duusduus34/] transportation, you could use the plastic jar as a case. Like all Bluetooth speakers, the HMDX Jam connects wirelessly up to 30 feet away and works with all Bluetooth-enabled smartphones, tablets, and laptops/desktops. The rechargeable, lithium-ion battery is rated to deliver up to 4 hours of wireless play, which is OK, but not great (your battery life will vary according to volume level, so you may be able to do better at lower volumes). It charges via USB and has an audio input for playing audio from non-Bluetooth devices. There's a switch on the bottom of the speaker that allows you to pair two speakers in 'stereo' mode. Sarah Tew/CNET There's no speakerphone capabilities, but as noted, you can combine two speakers to create a stereo pair. If you take a quick look at the instructions, it's easy enough to pair the two speakers (you set the switch on the bottom to left for one speaker and right for the other). HMDX also sells the ruggedized Jam Extreme ($59.99), which is "splash proof, drop proof, and dirt proof." However, that model does not offer the stereo pairing feature. Continue to next page 01 02

The new models also up the battery life to 22 hours (from the BT2200's 18). Additionally, the JuniorJams offer what Puro calls "daisy-chain music sharing." Tether two JuniorJams together with an included USB cable, [http://www.batumirent.com/author/oneilneville99/ http://www.batumirent.com/author/oneilneville99/] and two people can listen to the same wireless (or wired) music source. Best of all, the Junior Jams are affordable, at least as far as name brand Bluetooth headphones are concerned. They retail for $80, though they're currently discounted to $70 on Amazon, where they're immediately available in five colors. They'll hit Amazon UK next week for £70. Aussie listeners will find them for AU$105 in early 2018.
