Heritage listing burrup peninsula threatens gasfields

BORA LAND, New York -- A group of conservationists on Tuesday released a map showing a proposed area for the town of Heritage which they say threatens the nearby gasfield, located within the park.

Founded by former oil executive John R. Heritage, Heritage Park covers about 2,100 acres about 1 mile south of the town, just south of Heritage Village.

In its new survey, a group called Save Heritage Land published one of the most comprehensive maps it's been able to obtain on the area that Heritage is trying to protect.

The new map shows an area within the park about 4 miles south of Heritage Village. It was submitted to the New York-based organization Heritage Preservation after Heritage submitted the maps to the EPA for consideration in the state's proposed gasfields regulations.

The group said the area was identified in the maps as having a high danger factor -- more than twice the limit -- because of the proposed gasfield.

"In addition to the potential impact for the development of natural gas infrastructure, there is the potential for a spillage of methane and hydrogen sulfide into New York's rivers and streams," said the report, "Saving Heritage Land by the Gulf."

The map shows the potential for leaks -- both gas and 바카라 water -- from the proposed gasfield through the park area.
