Gas conversion workshop owner plays down rebate controversy

Former operator Bob Kaczmarek is the main man in the Caltrans-funded cleanup project for nearly all of downtown San Pedro — nearly 300 years after its construction.

He's also the man in charge of paying off more than $800,000 to a Caltrans consultant hired to clean up the original train bridge project, which is funded by Caltrain.

Kaczmarek, 83, said the agreement he and Caltrans reached at last month's meeting of the San Pedro Municipal Transportation Authority is the clearest-cut deal yet for Caltrans and 바카라 the Caltrain cleanup project.

"I thought we had won," said Kaczmarek, executive vice president of the city's rail transit commission. "It was very fair."

A decade ago, Caltrans spent $1.1 million to finish the Caltrain station at Santa Rosa and San Pedro streets, and it expects to save $400,000 — plus $250,000 to cover the cost of labor 바카라 involved — by closing and cleaning up some of the railroad-built structures that line the streets.

Now Kaczmarek's consulting agency, Transplan, 바카라 is responsible for the Caltrain and station cleanup — and the new bridge that will replace it.

The work started in 2010 after Kaczmarek's company, Western Construction Company, was forced by a court order to give up its plans to make major changes to the existing Caltrain station. The court ordered a halt to the work as part of its efforts to obtain money from both Caltrain and voters for a rail transit project.

The court order also barred Caltrans from building a railroad-like station that would have included a rail bridge at the station and from installing the train bridge itself.
