Perths population to soar from 4.6 million to 7.5 million

The Census reported that the population of Australia increased from 4.6 million in 1998 to 7.5 million in 2010. The biggest increase came in the north west, which grew from 2.0 million people in 1998 to 2.8 million in 2010.

In 1998, Sydney had the most people aged under 15 in the nation, and was followed by Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide. In 2010, Sydney had 1.8 million people age 15 years and over, an increase of about 5 per cent from the previous year. The number of people aged 60 years and over grew by about 9 per cent, with the rate of growth in this age group being similar to Australia's population.

The largest growth was in the South East, which grew from 1.9 million in 1998 to 2.2 million in 2010. Queensland's total population increased by about 5 per cent, 바카라 with Melbourne having the largest population growth from 0.4 million in 1998 to 0.4 million in 2010.

In addition to the large influx of people, Australia has experienced an increase in the number of deaths. Between 1998 and 2010, the population of deaths increased by more than 22 per cent across Australia – nearly double the growth in the population of births. The largest percentage increase, between 1998 and 2010, was in NSW from 1.7 per cent in 1998 to 3.1 per cent in 2010.

The main factors that can explain the change in death rates were increased longevity due to ageing and increased drug use. The health system is improving overall, but it still faces challenges that lead to large proportions of deaths – particularly amongst older people who will become severely disabled due to their age and their own health problems, or for a very young person with advanced chronic conditions, who need help from medical care.

The changes to the death rate were not driven by any particular factor; rather, they are reflected in changing birth rates. Birth rates are increasing for all ages, 바카라 but birth rates are higher for people aged 55 or over (from 7.1 to 8.6 per thousand) and a large percentage of this increase is due to ageing (from 10.4 per thousand to 11.7 per thousand).

The Australian population has grown by 6.8 million over the course of this century, and 바카라 is forecast to reach 7.5 million in 2020.
