Bracks stripped of ny post by incoming abbott government for having unelectable views

Posted

The incoming Abbott government has stripped a Queensland MP of his post after he was found to have advocated for a more liberal position on gay marriage.

Tim Donnelly, who represents the seat of Bega, told the ABC Mr Abbot's decision had no bearing on Mr Donnelly's views on gay marriage.

"In the context of what he's said in the past, it just doesn't matter," he said.

"He's got to understand that the only choice that he is going to have is to come out and fight with the government, and that's all I can do in that situation.

"I can't fight with the Government. It's all over."

Mr Abbott has taken aim at Mr Donnelly after he called for a royal commission into same sex marriage and last week declared all federal public figures to be members of the Liberal Party.

The Opposition Leader said those on the committee were "pandering to the radical fringe".

In a radio interview last week, he said it was a "matter of political expediency" for a "right-wing extremist" like Mr Donnelly to join the committee.

It comes after Mr Abbot told Parliament the government would consider repealing the Marriage (Same-Sex Couples) Act if re-elected.

The Liberal Party was quick to condemn the MP's departure as a "manifestation of complete disrespect for the Labor 바카라 Party and the Australian people".

In an emailed statement to the ABC, the party said it stood behind Mr Donnelly and his "values and positions and fully supported the decision made by the PM".
