Andrew Hoyle/CNET Here's an almost identical shot taken with a Canon 5D MkIV and a 70-200mm lens. It's remarkable that there's such little difference between the two images. If anything, I prefer the iPhone's image for the way the reflections look on the front of the car. This is a great example of just how well a phone camera can compete with professional photography equipment when you take time to craft it.

A lot of the hair and skin irritation has to do with the fact that soap and hard water react to form "scum", the white sticky layer left behind on your skin after soaping up. Have you ever noticed the white residue that builds up on your faucets that's hard to clean? It's the product of calcium and magnesium in your water, and that same residue is building up on your skin too. The scum clogs your pores and can cover the strands of your hair so that conditioner can't do its work.

I also limited this list to automatic machines and semi-automatic espresso machines. I excluded super-automatic espresso makers as well, sold by Krups, Philips, Miele, and others. They're a breed apart, costing many multiple times more ($2,000 to $3,000).

The Brita filtered bottle consists of just three parts: the bottle itself, the flip-top cap and the filter, which nicely locks into place on the bottom side of the cap. It's easy to put together and requires almost no prep -- just quickly wash the bottle and run the filter under hot water before your first use. Because the bottle contains minimal parts, it's pretty easy to clean.

Tyler Lizenby/CNET 5. Spruce up the contacts
Does your vacuum often fail to charge when it's in its dock? If that's the case, dirty electrical contacts could be the problem. Avoid this situation by cleaning these metal surfaces, both on the robot and its dock. Again, a slightly damp magic eraser or microfiber cloth will do the trick.

Tyler Lizenby/CNET Robot vacuums are incredibly convenient time-savers. They sweep your floors for you. They can toil away when you're not around, or when you'd rather just lounge on the couch. Unfortunately, they aren't entirely self-sufficient. Without regular maintenance, your vacuum won't tackle its chores as well as it should. Worse, it could stop running altogether.

If your vacuum came with a cleaning tool in the box, use it to make quick work of any coiled strands you find. Don't be afraid to dive in and dig out debris with your fingers too. I often find the best tools for the job are your bare hands.

Getty Images Another main issue is connected to the chlorine that's used as a disinfectant in our drinking water. The major health concern is actually the byproducts that are created when chlorine reacts with natural organic matter in the water, creating harmful chemicals called THMs. You've probably heard of chloroform, which is just one common THM, and high levels of THMs act as a carcinogen.

To use that filter on my phone, however, I needed a Moment phone case and the 37mm filter mount the company makes. I could then attach my Lee Filters square filter mount, insert the "grad ND" and shoot just like I do on my DSLR. Unfortunately, the iPhone 11 Pro has just been released and Moment hadn't created a case for all this yet. I did have the necessary accessories for my XS Max and as such, I used that phone instead to get the shot you see here.

And if you'd rather not spend that much, there are plenty of cheaper, yet just as durable, alternatives. Oxo's $49 cold brewer is affordable and easy to operate, and makes excellent cold-brew coffee concentrate. Likewise, the $24 Takeya and $30 Bialetti pitchers also have prices that are easy to swallow. Traditional cold brewers like those require at least 12 hours to produce their beverages, but devotees will tell you the stuff is worth the wait.

$40 at Lifestraw Waterwell Ultrafiltration Travel Water Bottle
Produced a sour taste
Paige Thies/CNET Waterwell claims its double-stage filtration system removes 99.9% of waterborne pathogens, but based on the taste of the water that came from this bottle, I wouldn't be so sure. I didn't feel or see any particles like I did with the Lifestraw Go, but the taste alone was enough to make me wary of bringing this bottle into the backcountry.

That's because battling grime always takes a toll, even on relentlessly automatic robot cleaners. No matter how efficiently it navigates, or its level of sophistication, any robot vacuum will require periodic servicing. From clearing its wheels and brushes of debris, to cleaning its sensors and filters, this guide lays out everything you need to keep your robot vacuum in tip-top shape. And if you're looking for a new machine, we just reviewed the top robot vacuums for 2019. (Spoiler: The iRobot Roomba S9 Plus came out the winner.)

The Roomba S9 Plus and Roomba i7 Plus take dustbin maintenance to the next level. These models come with a CleanBase dock that automatically vacuums out their dustbins. Dirt then ends up in a disposable bag big enough to hold 30 bin-fulls of debris. It's also a snap to remove and toss into the trash.
