Brita's smart pitcher is $20 more than an identical Brita pitcher with no smarts to speak of, so the question here is whether or not that Amazon Dash integration is worth the extra 20 bucks. In theory, it's a useful bit of automation -- especially if you already buy replacement filters on the regular. In practice, it isn't all that precise, and more than anything seems designed to get people to buy new filters more often than they would out of habit alone. It certainly isn't something that anyone needs, but it might make a decent gift for a friend who's picky about filtered water.

On any robot vacuum, the first surfaces to come into contact with floor-borne dirt are its wheels and brushes. Dust and debris builds up around them as they rotate. Items such as string and hair are particularly challenging to these spinning parts. Remove them regularly to check if any of the troublesome objects have become wrapped around your robot's brushes and wheels.
If your vacuum came with a cleaning tool in the box, use it to make quick work of any coiled strands you find. Don't be afraid to dive in and dig out debris with your fingers too. I often find the best tools for the job are your bare hands.
The bottle and cap are made from BPA-free plastic and feel just as sturdy as a plastic bottle should. The filter, however, is attached to the straw by a flimsy rubber tube, which could be the culprit behind the poor filtering. The water tasted sour, but I couldn't quite place the taste -- sulfur, maybe. Even though I didn't really want to, I took a couple more sips (and also spat those out) to make sure it truly tasted the way I thought it did.

The Mahaton bottle can last up to three weeks on a full charge, assuming you run the purification cycle up to four times per day. That's slightly less than the CrazyCap and the Larq, but not such a short battery life that you'll feel burdened with charging the bottle.
The Larq, CrazyCap and Mahaton all use UV-C light to zap all of the major waterborne pathogens; they're all made of stainless steel; and they all have automatic cleaning cycles. On top of that, all three are super easy to use and they all have battery notifications so they'll never die without warning.
Larq was the only one of the three bottles that didn't taste significantly better than my tap water, however. It tasted slightly cleaner, but I probably couldn't tell the difference if someone blind taste-tested me.

Once you prep the bottle, the filtering process requires 10 seconds of squeezing the bottle to work the foam adsorption feature. To get all of the water out of the bottle, you need to give it a serious squeeze -- even roll up the bottle from the bottom, similar to the way you roll up a toothpaste tube when it's getting low.
A sensor in the bottle tracks every sip you take and records it in your activity app when synced. The Hidrate Spark bottle works with iOS and most Android phones. The lid and bottle are dishwasher safe, and the sensor can be hand washed. The bottle uses replaceable batteries that you can purchase directly from the Hidrate website.

Most robot vacuum makers say you should empty their robots' dustbins after each cleaning session. Both iRobot and Neato suggest this for their Roomba and Botvac models. iRobot even tells you to rinse robot bins with warm water, then to let it air dry.
