The university has issued a notice of compliance, saying it is reviewing free speech policies to "ensure that freedom of speech policies operate efficiently to protect all members of the university community". The university does not plan to address complaints, but has asked students to report alleged offending to the department of student protection. In an email, Simon Brodie, head of diversity, tolerance and inclusion, said the university's free speech policy was aimed at protecting all students and 바카라 community members from offensive speech. "Students expect the university to treat all students fairly and with respect and they do not expect us to treat any individual student unfairly," he said. The university's notice will also help clarify what is meant by free speech on campus and how it compares with the university's core principles.

"The policy is clear, we recognise that some students do engage in offensive speech on campus but on the contrary, it is not part of who we are as a university community," Mr Brodie said. "This is because we do not want to cause disruption or discomfort or offend any other members of the university community. "While students expect the university to treat all students fairly and with respect and they do not expect us to treat any individual student unfairly," he said.

"In general terms, in a particular situation where a student is reported to have breached their student conduct code, we ask people to report their experience to the department of student protection through the university's student protection portal, or to the appropriate staff member of our university," Mr Brodie said. "We ask for people to respect free speech and privacy and to keep their complaints to themselves as we will have no evidence to bring against them a
