WASHINGTON, May 3 (Reuters) - Former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder has been charged by Zimbabwe with corruption charges, his office said on Tuesday.
The charge was announced by the U.S. Department of Justice in New York, without naming Holder.
Holder's office said the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Southern District of New York, which manages most of the U.S. prison systems, was involved in an investigation into allegations that Holder improperly used state funds to provide legal and financial advice to an unnamed friend and associate.
The former attorney general was an advocate for civil rights in Zimbabwe during the civil war there and also worked on African human rights issues. He left office in 2013.
The U.S. Department of Justice on Tuesday filed three separate civil rights complaint against Holder in the case, 바카라 including one filed in U.S. District Court in New York, which will pursue a search warrant to obtain information on the investigation.
Holder was appointed as acting attorney general in 2013 in reaction to the resignation of Eric Holder as attorney general because of his close relationships with top aides to U.S. President Barack Obama, according to a statement released by the Justice Department on Tuesday.

"I do not know whether President Holder will face charges here but I do know that the United States Attorney's Office is investigating these allegations," Holder said at a news conference after the judge appointed Holder.
Holder is among the leading figures in the Justice Department's civil rights division and represented civil rights cases in several U.S. district courts during his nine years as attorney general. The two assistant U.S. attorneys for the district were not available for comment.
