Bishop in indonesia for bali forum amid spy tensions

By Yohanan Bhattacharjee

MUMBAI/MUMBAI (Reuters) - Indian police on Wednesday said they had found a spy working for Indonesia with sensitive information and arrested a senior Indonesian official in the latest development in a spy-conflict over Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

Senior Indonesian police officer Jovian Mabjio has been identified as the alleged source of the leak and was detained on suspicions of providing sensitive information to foreign intelligence agencies.

Mabjio, 57, was arrested at a remote military base outside Jakarta, with a warrant of arrest issued, police and a spokesman said. He was held overnight on suspicion of violating anti-espionage laws.

Police did not give an exact time of detention, but an official from the office of the interior minister said officers were investigating the leak.

He was not immediately available for comment. Mabjio was the Indonesian head of the country's main Balinese-language radio station, which was among the channels of Indonesia's largest media conglomerate, TVK, that were among the last to report the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight 370 on March 8, 2014.

The source had come to Indonesia on a travel visa and was arrested by police with his wife on Tuesday after their two children went to look for him, the police official said.

Mabjio was a senior official in the Indonesian defence ministry, officials at the embassy in New York, where he had lived, said on Wednesday.

He had worked for the Indonesian intelligence agency, the Intelligence Service of the General Staff, as a consultant and had "knowledge of all major military operations against Malaysia" and was based in the country, the security official said.

"This is not something normal," the intelligence official said. "It can get you killed in a war zone and you will have to go underground and do it again."

A military official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Mabjio's arrest was linked to a separate probe launched by the Indonesian navy.

He said the officers who raided the apartment where Mabjio was held were investigating "an imminent intelligence crime", while two other military officials were also being questioned, as were several other officers of the military intelligence department, or MARCOM.

Mabjio did not respond to an email or a phone call to his home, the military official said.

Indonesia has been rocked by an increasing level of suspicion over the Malaysian plane disappearance, which has led to massive international search operations and an international appeal for the missing aircraft.

Indonesia says it is unable to confirm where the plane went in last March, 바카라 when Malaysian officials believe it wa
