Lodhi denies terrorism connections in Lahore

Lahore police have arrested a man in connection with three bomb blasts that hit several mosques in Lahore on Wednesday, police said.

They released CCTV footage from Lahore's Azad Market, in Lahore's Sindh provincial town of Sialkot, where the blasts took place.

"A woman who works on the street heard an explosion and rushed to her house to find her children crying," police station inspector Asif Umar told AFP on Thursday.

"She said she then saw someone holding a device. She then saw that someone was running away, but she called her neighbour and was told she could see a man running away."

He said the woman and a relative went to a nearby area and found the injured man.

Police detained two people.

According to the provincial government, the mosque in which the blasts took place was belonging to an organisation called the Jamaat-e-Lahore, a right-wing extremist organisation.

"The two suspects who were later detained have links with Jamaat-e-Lahore, a party that opposes the US drone strikes in the region," the provincial government said in a statement carried by the state-run Sindh news agency.

Lack of transparency

The militant groups have also expressed their concerns over a lack of transparency with regard to the targeting of the two schools in the city, which are among the most sensitive targets of US drone strikes.

Last week the US announced that it was ending drone strikes in Pakistan, with the US government saying it would work with the Pakistani government to "increase the transparency and accountability" in its operations.

US drone attacks are controversial in Pakistan, where they are considered the province of the Afghan Taliban which the US once regarded as an enemy.

The two Lahore schools, and the explosion which left one dead and 바카라 dozens injured in them, were targeted by American drone strikes in late April, causing outrage among residents in Lahore, which has been a hub for militant groups such as the Haqqani network and the Haqqani network linked to the Taliban.
