Eighteen die in iraq attacks
At least 38 Iraqis have been killed in the fighting in Iraq's northern Nineveh province since Friday, local authorities and other officials said on Sunday.
The number is likely to rise, with fighting continuing in the towns of Mosul and Tikrit and in parts of western Anbar province.
A car bomb killed three people in Baghdad, one person in Anbar's main hospital and seven in Basra, sources told AP.
Islamic State (IS) fighters have been using heavy fire and car bombings to push into Baghdad and 바카라 have seized vast swathes of territory in and around Iraq's second largest city, which has the largest population of the two countries.
The latest bloodshed has shaken public confidence in the West's willingness to provide assistance to the country, and there has been no immediate US response.
The death toll for Sunday's fighting rose slightly to 48, including 10 fighters, as fighters from the Islamic State (IS) and Kurdish Peshmerga launched two attacks on a district's security forces in the city of Baquba, officials said.
IS took responsibility for an assault on the area's security forces in the late afternoon, according to a statement carried by their Amaq news agency.
IS also said it had "carried out the third and final assault", killing five forces loyal to the Iraqi government and seized two military vehicles.
The group's advance has forced tens of thousands of people out of their homes in both Baghdad and Anbar province, and prompted Iraqi military operations to encircle the militants.
"The security situation in Iraq is deteriorating rapidly. People are afraid of a future without Iraq and their country," the deputy leader of Anbar, Mohammad Muqtada al-Sadr, told Reuters.
Taxis being used to transport aid are being attacked by gunmen on a roadside bridge as the Iraqi army moves against militant positions, residents said, citing local residents.
Local fighters have retaken some of the last IS-held towns in Anbar in recent weeks, a government source said on Sunday.
