Welfare rates increase every six months in line with rising living costs
Single pensioners currently receive $826.20 per fortnight, but will have their payments increased by an extra $8.70.
Couples receiving pensions will see their existing $1208.40 payment boosted by an extra $13.20 per fortnight.
Existing parenting payments - approximately $762.40 per week for single parents and $492.80 for a couple - will also rise by roughly $3 per week.
Rent assistance rates will also increase from September 20, as will a range of income and asset test limits for various payments including the age pension.
Pensions are linked to prices and wages, while welfare allowances are tied to the consumer price index.
According to Statista, the unemployment rate in Australia in 2017 was 5.6%, with predictions for 2018 dropping to 5.25%.
