The plan was discovered when Hayes' wife went to a police station and told them that DellaFave had been murdered, and asked the officer who was responsible.

"I don't think you can even see it. I believe that they were watching my wife from the other window watching what I was doing, watching everything," Hayes recalled.

The officer refused to comment about the case until he took his leave of the agency and later came out and testified that he had ordered a hit on DellaFave that the informant planned to complete with the help of two others.
