FACT: Most majors groom you for a range of careers. When you associate the skills you will learn in your major with others you will gain from full-time work, internships, and other activities, you will have the ability to shift in a variety of directions. One might argue that if Instructional Design encompasses all aspects of creating eLearning materials, then it begins to phase out the need for professional IDs because any subject matter who knows the design tools can develop eLearning. I disagree. Just because someone knows how to use the tools doesn't mean he or she knows how to write instructionally. In fact, I believe the more an ID can branch out, the more marketable and necessary we become. It's one-stop shopping.
Any Industry has layers to make a whole and without the layers the whole can't exist. The whole is a group, who need to interact, and support each other. In retrospect, industry works because of the strength of the team. If you're trying and trying with burning passion for what you want to achieve in a career, and it isn't working for you, than you turned on the wrong faucet. The tub let's say has 20 knobs, all the taps drip into the same tub, but not all of them have an equal function.

In my technical writing world, I get paid to think about these things. Often, I must check my ego at the door and conform to writing styles with which I don't agree. Why? I must please my customers. It's my job. There are times in life when we all must conform and comply to rules we don't like. Sometimes, however, you just have to stand up for what you believe. For me, it's a strongly held belief that the exclamation point is a dangerous grammar tool that should be used sparingly and with caution.
